Kanaloa Marketplace (a Private Isalnd Region) is the home of Vulcania Graphics & Fine Art and the Vulcania Estates main offices. The terrain shape was created by Sahoni Tigerpaw and the three primary terrain textures were created by Keokipele Ansar from real life photographs on the island of Kaua’i. Kanaloa, the god of the ocean and a healer god, is one of the four great gods of Hawaiian mythology. Second Life resident Kahili Writer of Aloha International states: “In the tradition of Huna Kupua, Kanaloa represents the Core Self, or the center of the universe within oneself …the symbolic connection of all things to each other.”

There are 11 properties available for lease at Kanaloa Marketplace:

  • 4 parcels on the outside ring; 688 prims each.
  • 1 parcel on the outside ring; 996 prims.
  • 1 parcel on the outside ring; 1164 prims.
  • 5 small huts/shops in the central cove; 128 prims each

Structure, landscape/plant and other object prims currently associated with the rental property DO NOT count against the prim allotment. All of the structures were created by Second Life’s Mathieu Basiat (Wavelabs) and were modified by Keokipele Ansar. Additional modifications to suit your needs are also possible. Visit us in world for complete rental terms and pricing and be sure to read the Estate Covenant carefully.

Vulcania Fine Art (a Homestead Region) is home to Keokipele Ansar’s Vulcania Fine Art Gallery. The “main island” terrain is the Vulcania Graphics & Fine Art~Vulcania Estates logo created by Sahoni Tigerpaw and the three primary terrain textures are from the “real life” photographs taken on the island of Kaua’i. The two smaller islands were terraformed by Keokipele Ansar following the initial raw terrain file upload. The island in the Northwest corner is an active (but not life threatening) volcano.

There are 8 properties available for lease on Vulcania Fine Art:

  • 3 small Tiki Hut structures (VFA 2, 5 & 7); 150 prims each.
  • 3 large Tiki Hut structures (VFA 4, 6 & 8); 200 prims each.
  • 2 Tahaa structures (VFA 1 & 3); 250 prims each.

Structure, landscape/plant and other object prims currently associated with the rental property DO NOT count against the prim allotment. We first set up shop in Second Life as Vulcania Fine Art Gallery to try our hand at marketing our fine art photography in the virtual world. Our name grew out of our first land purchases/leases on an Estate in the region of Vulcania. When we decided to expand our Second Life presence and exposure to include our graphic design services in-world, we knew that we should keep the name and branding we had already begun to develop and we became Vulcania Graphics & Fine Art. Now we needed more space. So we set about searching for a new location. In business, it has always been said that one of the most important elements for success is “location, location, location.” In the digital, internet driven world of the 21st century, the maxim has additional connotations regarding search engine optimization and search query rankings. And in the virtual world where people (avatars) can fly and teleport, location has as much to do with the environment and community in which your business resides as it does with physical or geographic location in a traditional sense. So when we found a reasonably priced region (65,536 square meters of virtual land), we set about creating Vulcania Estates – literally from the ground (terrain) up. As it is now, the Estate consists of two regions – Kanaloa Marketplace and Vulcania Fine Art.

Above left is an image of our main office, our virtual “brick and mortar” place of business on Kanaloa Marketplace housing our graphic design services as well as our Vulcania Estate property rental services. Above right is a detail image of our virtual workstations on the second floor. Real life clients, in the form of their virtual selves or avatars as well as strictly Second Life clients can come here to meet directly with us. Even when we are not in-world, our clients can come here to leave a message and potential clients can pick up information about the services and products we have to offer in both worlds.

Keokipele AnsarKeokipele Ansar (Real Life: Daniel G. Walczyk)

In Second Life, Dan’s avatar name is Keokipele “Keo” Ansar and his art gallery, Vulcania Fine Art Gallery is located in the region of Vulcania Fine Art. Keo is a member of the Art & Artist Network, Art Gallery Owners and Vio Business groups among others. His Second Life interests include machinima, building, terraforming, terrain texture creation and in-world photography. At Vulcania Fine Art Gallery, Keo currently exhibits only Dan’s “real life” photography while he develops his “in-world” photography skills. In the virtual world, there is no actual working “object” that functions like a real world film or digital camera. Images are composed utilizing “view” controls (known as “camera” surfing in-world) and lighting can be manipulated through objects created as light sources as well as through various environmental settings controls. From there, the in-world snapshot tool or the computer’s native screen capture tools can be used to “release the shutter.” Just like the real world, post processing is accomplished through a variety of real world software applications.

As “in-world” photography becomes more and more prevalent, it is finding it’s way into “real life” fine art galleries around the world as a viable and collectible art form in its own right. Be sure to visit the Artist Galleries page here as well as his “in-world” gallery often. Keo will soon be adding photographs and series created in Second Life.
