Are you in search of an “on demand” (no minimum quantities) printing company to reproduce your original fine art for open and limited editions?
Here’s what artist Tony Jones had to say about working with Vulcania Graphics & Fine Art on a recent project:

“Meeting and working with Dan and Shawn has been a true honor and a pleasure. I brought them a painting that I never thought could be photographed accurately, let alone be made into a print. Their professionalism and attention to detail really shines through on this piece. Not only were they able to shoot a stunning photograph of the painting, their mastery of color and the printmaking process has resulted in a print that preserves the depth of texture and subtle color modulations of the original work. Their knowledge of art and patience in helping me understand the print process has been invaluable and I am deeply grateful. I highly recommend Dan and Shawn’s Vulcania Graphics and Fine Art to any artist seeking world-class printmaking.”

Hahnemühle previously announced a new fine art paper called Bamboo 290 and we’re really excited about this paper!

Made from 90% bamboo fibres and 10% cotton, this natural warm-toned and OBA free genuine art paper offers maximum aging resistance, an extremely large colour gamut and a high colour density. Its premium Inkjet coating also offers a very high level of water resistance. Bamboo 290, with its fine, soft surface feel, lends itself particularly well to warm-toned colour and monochrome prints of fine art photography and fine art reproduction.

The traditional Hahnemühle paper mill has developed the worldwide first Fine Art inkjet paper made from bamboo fibers. The natural white paper with a warm tone combines spiritual photography with environmental considerations. “Bamboo 290” consists of fibers from highly renewable bamboo grass… a premium, soft Fine Art paper from ultra-pure bamboo fibers and pure spring water. This paper opens up a whole new artistic and spiritual dimension in Fine Art printing.

Bamboo290 Press Info (PDF 116k)

I’m particularly impressed with the deep rich blacks this paper yields and I feel it is a great choice for hand-drawn fine art reproductions!

However, I have not integrated the Feedburner email subscriptions feature into this new website. Feedburner was acquired by Google and the code used to sign up for new email subscriptions has changed. Our current Wordpress theme (webpage theme) doesn’t have the new Google Feedburner email subscription code built into it, so I’ll have to work on getting that feature added again using the new code. I apologize for any inconvenience and I hope you will subscribe to the new RSS feed—at least until I get the email subscription feature working again!

Please make sure to update your address books with our new business name, web address and email address!

Yes, the rumors are true! We’ll be changing our name from Walczyk & Young Studios to Vulcania Graphics & Fine Art. If you’ve been reading about our business adventures in Second Life this name should sound familiar. We’ve had a lot of good feedback from the branding efforts for our virtual fine art business and we’ve decided to continue our efforts by changing our real life business name… we feel more “at home” with the new name and Vulcania Graphics & Fine Art is more descriptive of our services.

Why “Vulcania”? When we first began to experiment with having a virtual business in Second Life, our island region was already named “Vulcania”. It seemed appropriate as the island was tropical and included a volcano. We also felt connected to this land because of our personal interest in Hawaiian mythology, particularly the volcano goddess of creation, Pele. As we created and developed our virtual art gallery and studio we began to notice synchronicities happening with our real life business. Hence, our real life business was also being transformed.

Conducting business using two different names has been confusing for us as well as our customers. Realigning our business to include virtual endeavors will help to encompass the many different forms artists choose to display and market their artwork.

During the next couple of weeks you’ll notice a modified website and web address (domain name) as well as a new email address. We’ll forward the current web address to the new web address but you’ll eventually want to update any of your bookmarks to this site after the change has occurred. We’ll also post our new email address and send out an email notification to everyone.

Both Dan and I are very excited about the transition and we’re grateful to all those who have helped bring about Vulcania Graphics & Fine Art.

Mahalo!

Photographer Daniel G. Walczyk is pleased to announce the addition of three new galleries to his page:

“Susquehanna Simpatico”

Thirty-five images of motion abstractions exploring and celebrating the Susquehanna River in and around Wrightsville, Pennsylvania. The series was born of long exposure experimentations at a spot under the US Route 30 bridge that spans the river between Wrightsville (York County) and Columbia (Lancaster County).

“The Eyes’ Mind”

Sixteen images exploring the water, bubbles and ice in the small “pond” water feature in the garden behind the studio. Capturing bubbles at various stages of their brief lives as they danced and exploded across the surface resulted in a broad range of surprises. And the ice brought its own mystery and spirit as the cold winds blew.

“Flora”

Forty-two images, mostly close-up, macro and detail studies of nature’s infinite variety . . . most often captured just outside the front or back door, wherever you may be.

Twenty-eight images have also been added to the “Elemental Reflections” gallery.

Please contact the studio for pricing and options to order fine art prints from any of our galleries.

The bad news first . . . and it’s really not news any longer, just a major annoyance and a huge question mark as to whether or not our SL business vision and model will survive the bomb Linden Labs dropped on Estate owners who have Open Space SIM holdings. I won’t go into all of the details and arguments about the controversy and its effects on residents, businesses, not-for-profits and educational institutions—one need only go to the SL Forums for that.

The good news is that Walczyk & Young Studios / Vulcania Graphics & Fine Art – Vulcania Estates is going to ride out the storm for now. Fine Art sales have picked up a bit and we’ve opened 3 new exhibitions of our work on the Estate.

At the Light House on Anahola Beach I have installed 14 pieces in a series called “The Eyes’ Mind.” All of the images were created in the garden outside the back door to our Studio in Wrightsville, PA and feature the astounding and provocative power of water and the “spirit(s)” that both inhabit and emanate from it. From the landing point, go to the Light(house)!

At the Vulcania Fine Art Gallery, I have just finished installing an on-going series called “Susquehanna Simpatico.” The series is currently comprised of motion abstractions exploring and celebrating the Susquehanna River in and around Wrightsville, PA. After visiting the gallery, take some time to explore the rental properties available on Vulcania Fine Art The structures are part of the rental and any other landscaping or object prims currently on the parcel DO NOT count against the prim allotment — a “group” radio is also included so you can change the audio stream on your parcel to suit your tastes. We’re also more than happy to modify the structure to some extent to suit your needs!

On Kahiki, Sahoni Tigerpaw has opened his exhibition, “The Shaman Series” which will run through January 3, 2009. This fine art series is a “must see” and is primarily comprised of composites created from photographic images in nature. Be sure to visit Vulcania Fine Art Studio and the 4 parcels available for rent on Kahiki.

The Vulcania Graphics & Fine Art / Vulcania Estates offices are located in the Northeast corner of Kanaloa Marketplace. We invite any and all merchants and artists with an affinity for a tropical environment to check out the available shops for rent on the island. We are especially interested in creators and artists in SL with indigenous backgrounds or styles (including but definitely not limited to Native American, Polynesian and African). As with the rentals on Kahiki and Vulcania Fine Art, the shops and radios are provided with the rental and the prims currently on the parcels DO NOT count toward your prim allotment.

Please come visit us at Vulcania Estates! Enjoy our current exhibitions and by all means explore all four SIMs. There is free public hang gliding up on the mountain on Kahiki and free public wind surfing, kayaks available for demo/purchase and 7Seas Fishing available on Anahola Beach. Have your own toys? No worries. Rezzing is allowed on all public lands within the estate for 2 hours!

We look forward to seeing you at Vulcania Estates!
